CASA GRANDE, Ariz. – Over forty Grande Sports Academy graduates attend thirty-three universities throughout the United States. Not only are they furthering their education on the pitch, as many graduates are enjoying a productive 2013 campaign, they are also furthering their education in the classroom.
In the 2014 edition of U.S. News & World Report’s “America’s Best Colleges”, eleven Grande Sports Academy graduates currently attend colleges, which have been ranked in the top 100.
If should come as no surprise with all the success the players have achieved in the classroom.

Corey Baird, M: Played in all three matches for the U-18 MNT in an International Tournament in Limoges, France. Baird came off the bench and played 20 minutes against France on October 6th, 35 minutes against Czech Republic on October 9th, and 30 minutes against Poland on October 11th. The U-18 MNT played France to a draw and defeated Czech Republic and Poland en route to finishing second at the tournament. Head Coach Javier Perez spoke to US Soccer about the tournament here.

CASA GRANDE, Ariz. – In arguably the most intense competition the Grande Sports Academy has ever seen, the Tigers led by captain Moises Rodriguez defeated FC Barcelona 4-2 in the Carne Asada Classic championship match to claim bragging rights at the Grande Sports Academy for eternity.
Ok, not eternity, but for quite a while.
Parents’ Weekend was held at the Grande Sports Academy this past weekend, and with no competitions scheduled for the Academy, coaches organized an 10-team tournament and appropriately called it the Carne Asada Classic; due to a BBQ serving carne asada, which was held after the Classic.
The 10 teams were divided up into 2 groups with the top two teams from each group advancing to the semifinals.
Pokemon United FC went undefeated in Group #1 and faced Group #2 runner-up Tigers, who went on and thrashed Pokemon 5-2 in the semifinals. In the other semifinal match, FC Barcelona, led by captain Jose Hernandez, went undefeated in Group #2 and defeated Boca Juniors in the other semifinal match.
In the championship match, excellent play from ‘keeper Christian Herrera, who was pressed into field duty, Diego “Diablo” Silva, Moises Rodriguez, Aaron Herrera, Ishan Atit, Luis “Wicho” Barraza, and Ryan Flood were too much for Barcelona, as they defeated the odds-on-favorite 4-2 to claim the trophy.

CASA GRANDE, Ariz. – Real Salt Lake Academy midfielder Corey Baird and the U-18 MNT went undefeated at the 2013 Limonges Tournament, which gave Baird and his teammates a second place finish at the three-match tournament.
In the opening match against host country France, the U-18 MNT came back from a two-goal deficit and scored the late equalizer in the 79th-minute. Baird came off the bench in the 76th-minute and played as an outside midfielder. Highlights from the match can be seen here.
In the second match against the Czech Republic, Baird was subbed in at the 61st-minute and helped the U-18 MNT hold onto a 1-0 win. Highlights here. In the final match against Poland, the U-18s scored a goal and were on the fortunate end of a Poland own goal in a 2-0 win. Baird was subbed on at the 60th-minute and played as an attacking midfielder. Highlights can be watch here.
Even though the U-18 MNT went undefeated in three-matches, they lost out on first place due to goal differential. France, who were the winners, defeated Poland and Czech Republic.
Baird spoke highly about the trip and was extremely pleased with the U-18s performance as a team.
“We showed that we can compete with the best teams in the world and we only lost out on first place due to goal differential. Coach Perez was happy. For him it was like we won the tournament.”
Even though Baird did not see as many minutes as he usually does, he said the coaches were pleased with what he did in the minutes he was given.
Next up for the U-18 MNT may be another tournament in Europe later this year.
