CASA GRANDE, Ariz. – The Grande Sports Academy home of the Real Salt Lake Academy is pleased to announce the verbal commitment of senior midfielder Tyler Buckley to Richmond International Academic & Soccer Academy located in Yorkshire England.
The RIASA offers a unique university experience for student-athletes with an accredited American degree program, a top quality soccer program and an opportunity to obtain a UEFA coaching license. These, and the opportunity to play in England were the major factors in Buckley’s decision.
“It’s like here at the Grande Sports Academy where they have the separation between the soccer and the schooling, which gives me a sports management degree. I always wanted to move to England, and that was on my bucket list and now I’ve had the opportunity to try it.”
Buckley traveled to England on December 13th and spent a few days on trial while learning about the academic side.
“First they contacted me saying are you interested in this school and then they told me about the details of what it is. That really spiked my interest and when I went there to tryout they said they loved my quality of play and fitness and they [RIASA] accepted me into their soccer and academics.”
Buckley spoke highly about the opportunity the RIASA provides to its student athletes who want to move off the pitch, but continue to be involved in the sport.
“I get to stay with soccer after I’m done and the whole setup at the school seemed interesting. Plus you get your coaching UEFA “B” license at the end and coaching is something that I would like to do.”
Buckley, from Tucson, Arizona, has been at the Academy for two years and thanked the many people in his life who have helped him along the way.
“Want to thank my parents, my family and the coaches and staff at the Grande Sports Academy. My family motivates me to keep pushing forward and coaching staff has led me to where I am now.”
