As the calendar inches closer and closer to February 6th, National Letter of Intent day, seniors at the Grande Sports Academy are going to have to make their decisions soon as to where they would like to play collegiately in the fall.
Before a player signs on the 6th, he is allowed to verbally commit to a school, and the most current Academy player to commit is senior FW Kostas Kotselas who will be attending the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
“I’m very excited, it took a big load of my chest. I’m excited for my first year of college both soccer and academic wise.”
Originally from San Diego, Kotselas joined the Academy in August of 2012 for his senior season. Before joining he played for the Surf Academy and then played with the South Coast Strikers who played in the prestigious Milk Cup in the summer of 2012.
Kotselas represents a few Academy players who have joined later in their High School careers for a chance to be recruited by a collegiate team.
“It’s crazy how recruiting wise so many coaches come here to see you play. Since I came here I have been looked at way more than at my old club. Not just because my level got better but because if they are looking to find someone they come here. They don’t go to another club. That is the main reason why I came here to find the right college for me.”
After being immersed into a soccer culture that is 24/7 365 days a year Kotselas feels that he has made the right choice by going to school where men’s soccer has a passionate fan base.
“When I first went there the coach told me there is no football, so soccer is the main sport. I am really excited because everyone is going to the games and I want to be the best I can possibly be. Be one of the starters and be one of the best players and score as many goals as I can.
Kotselas is now the 10th player from the Grande Sports Academy to verbally commit in 2013. See the list here.
