Grande Sports Academy, Casa Grande, AZ – Two more members of the Real Salt Lake – Arizona soccer academy announce verbal commitments today. Forward Danny Gavin and Defender Rodrigo Uriarte plan to continue their academic and soccer careers at Division 1 colleges.
Danny Gavin has given his verbal commitment to attend the University of Washington Huskies squad in the fall of 2013. This past season Gavin scored 9 goals to assist the U17/18 team into the United States Soccer Development Academy’s national playoffs earlier this summer.
The UW Huskies 2011-12 men’s soccer team finished in second place in the North Conference of the PAC-12 with a 12-4-2 record. Disappointed from missing a selection to the NCAA last year, UW coach Jamie Clark is very optimistic for the 2012 season as the team hits the pitch last week.
Rodrigo Uriarte has given his verbal commitment to attend Stony Brook University Seawolves – The State University of New York. Uriarte played in 28 of the 30 games for the U15/16 team during the 2011-12 USSDA season. His leadership contributed to the team’s second place finish in the SoCal Division of the USSDA West Conference and a bid to the national soccer playoffs.
The Seawolves compete in the American East Conference in which it won the 2011-12 conference championship. The win gave the 10-6-4 Seawolves an automatic bid to the NCAA soccer tournament. During the 2012 spring soccer season, the Seawolves went undefeated at 4-0-0. Coach Ryan Anatol is confident the team will again play through a difficult schedule to defend its American East Conference championship.
