CASA GRANDE, Ariz. – The Real Salt Lake U-16 & U-18 Academy teams are set to kickoff a busy March schedule against Southwest Division rivals Chivas USA U-16 & U-18 Academy on Saturday, March 8th, at the Grande Sports World.
The U-18 match is set to begin at 3:00 PM and will be followed by the U-16 match at 5:30 PM.
Real Salt Lake U-17/18, ranked #2 in the nation by Top Drawer Soccer, is the current leader in the Southwest Division with a 10-1-3 record and has conceded a U-17/18 league best ten goals. Through six matches at home, RSL U-17/18 has won five matches, drew one and has outscored opponents 26-3. Eric Carbajal is the team leader in goals scored with nine and is followed by Sam Gleadle with seven. Jose Hernandez and Corey Baird have found the back of the net five times. Carbajal, Gleadle and Hernandez are all tied for the team lead with five assists each. In their most recent match, the U-17/18s defeated Nomads SC 3-2 on February 23rd with Gleadle recording a brace and Carbajal adding one.
In the previous matchup between these two sides, RSL U-17/18 defeated Chivas USA 2-0 in Los Angeles on October 5th. Chivas USA is currently holding the third position in the Southwest Division with a 10-4-4 record through 18 matches.
Real Salt Lake U-15/16, ranked #3 in the country by Top Drawer Soccer, is the current leader in the Southwest Division with an 11-1-2 record and is tied for the league high in goal difference with +37; 43 goals scored and 6 goals conceded. RSL U-15/16 has won all six matches played at home this year outscoring opponents 20-1. Sebastian Saucedo leads the team in scoring with 12 goals and is followed by Josh Doughty and Tate Schmitt, who have recorded five each. In their most recent match, the U-15/16s defeated Nomads SC 2-0. Evan Waldrep and Saucedo scored for the Claret-and-Cobalt.
In the previous matchup between the two sides, RSL U-15/16 defeated Chivas USA 3-1 in Los Angeles on October 5th. Chivas USA is currently holding the fifth position in the Southwest Division with a 7-6-5 record through 18 matches.

CASA GRANDE, Ariz. – Real Salt Lake finished first in Central Region qualifying for the 2013-14 Generation Adidas Cup, which is Major League Soccer’s annual elite youth tournament for U-17 academy teams. The Claret-and-Cobalt have now qualified for a national event in April where they will compete alongside international teams.

SAN DIEGO – Real Salt Lake U-16 extended its unbeaten streak to eleven matches following their two goal shutout win over Southwest Division foes Nomads SC U-16 on Sunday afternoon.
The shutout was RSL’s ninth through thirteen USSDA league matches, in which the Claret-and-Cobalt has scored thirty goals. RSL U-16 is tied for second in the U-16 age group in goals against with six.
Evan Waldrep scored his first league goal and broke the scoreless deadlock in the 25th-minute on a volleyed shot from outside the box. A cross came in from the right-wing and bounced around before Sebastian Saucedo fired from close range. The ball bounced out to Waldrep, who finished far post.
RSL looked to double their lead and shots by Josh Doughty and Sebastian Saucedo in the closing minutes of first half were saved by the Nomads goalkeeper.
After the restart, RSL continued to assert their dominance and doubled their lead in the 61st-minute on a penalty from Saucedo, who was taken down in the box when he cut in from the middle.
RSL goalkeeper Christian Herrera had a quite day, but came up big when it mattered. In the 47th-minute a Nomads forward broke through the RSL backline. Herrera ran off his line, made himself big, and smothered the shot.
The Nomads ‘keeper continued to impress and stopped a deadly shot by Tate Schmitt in the 69th-minute, which was the final shot for either side.

DEL MAR, Calif. – Real Salt Lake U-16 is now undefeated in ten matches – dating back to October 27th – following their 1-1 draw with Southwest Division rivals San Diego Surf on Saturday afternoon.
Fresh off of its impressive 2013-14 Generation Adidas Cup group stage triumph, this saw the Claret-and-Cobalt win Central Region qualifying, RSL U-16 Academy team struggled for the majority of the match, but looked like they would walk away with three points.
Sebastian Saucedo broke the scoreless deadlock three minutes before the halftime break when Danny Acosta stripped a Surf player around the halfway line. He dribbled forward and played to Sebastian Saucedo, who took a touch and finished near post. It was a sigh of relief due to the less than impressive first half showing, which saw Surf control the majority of the match with an aggressive attack that forced RSL U-16’s into some uncharacteristic decision making.
With the lead in hand, RSL U-16’s looked determined to extend the lead in the second half, but the Surf’s persistence paid off when a shot from outside the box took a nasty deflection and hit the RSL crossbar and dropped down for the equalizing goal. Fans and even the player looked stunned at what had just happened.
RSL pushed for the lead, but were thwarted time after time by a well organized Surf defense, who forced RSL to play to the wings. RSL cut in on numerous occasions from the wings, but their transition was poor and every pass or cross was either missed or played to the wrong player.
Surf didn’t threaten much after the goal and held 10-men behind the ball to hold on for the one point. It is just the third time this season the RSL U-16 team has dropped points.
