Grande Sports Academy Holiday Party: RSL GM, owner, president, GSA graduates and more attend

CASA GRANDE, Ariz. – The Grande Sports Academy hosted its annual Holiday Party on Monday night and Real Salt Lake owner Dell Loy Hansen, general manager Garth Lagerwey, president Bill Manning, Academy graduates Coco Navarro and Ricardo Velazco were in attendance with the Academy coaching staff and players.

Hansen and Lagerwey spoke to the players and congratulated them on their U-15/16 National Championship title, while Academy goalkeeper coach Ignacio Hernandez showed a video that recapped the 2013 year.

Ten players added to the Grande Sports Academy Wall of Fame

CASA GRANDE, Ariz. – When a player leaves the Grande Sports Academy for the next level, whether it be collegiate or professional, they are added to the GSA Wall of Fame. Over 50 players have had their official team picture added to the wall and this past week 10 more players were added.

Recent graduates: Eric Gonzalez, West Texas A&M; Haeden Turner, Douglas College; Jose “Bean” Vasquez, Grand Canyon University; Benji Lopez, Real Salt Lake; Luis Chavez, Liberty University have been added to the wall. Ben Spencer, Molde and Kainoa Bailey, Bayer Leverkusen, who were members of the U-16 team in the Academies inaugural year were added along with Chase Bishov, Princeton and Dillon Nino, Dayton, who just recently committed. Elliot Farmer, UCI had his picture added as well, while Ricardo Velazco had his plaque updated to show the University of Louisville.

With more players committing to universities the wall will continue to grow and once they are updated we will publish the new additions on the site.

GSA Exports College: Fourteen GSA graduates prepare for conference tournament play

CASA GRANDE, Ariz. – The 2013 NCAA Division I Tournament kicks off in less than two-weeks, and a few Grande Sports Academy graduates will experience their first taste of single elimination tournament play as they enter their respective conference tournaments.

Ricardo Velazco, Andrew Brody and Jon Zabasajja play for programs in the American Athletic Conference, which starts their tournament on Friday night. Velazco and Brody scored a combined 10 goals and notched 17 assists for the #1 seeded Louisville Cardinals while Zabasajja came on strong for #7 seeded SMU at the end of the season.

Salazar starts conference play with #2 seeded Elon on Saturday in the Southern Conference.

Eleven other GSA graduates, who may qualify for their conference tournaments, begin play next week: South Carolina (Ive Burnett), Virginia (Riggs Lennon, Jordan Allen), Clemson (Phanuel Kavita), Denver (Brian Hoyt), Air Force (AJ Esparza, Joey Shepshock), Seattle U (Brandon Marquez), UCI (Elliot Farmer), Dayton (Brian Bates) and Liberty (Luis Chavez)

Conference tournament schedules for Velazco, Brody, Zabasajja and Salazar are posted below. The conference finals will be broadcast live on ESPN3.
