Real Salt Lake Call Up Three Academy Players For Reserve League Match

Update – Real Salt Lake has called up defender Corey Nemeth. This is his first call up.

CASA GRANDE, Ariz. – Real Salt Lake has bolstered their Reserve League squad by calling up three academy players for the second consecutive Reserve league match. Academy players Justen Glad, Fito Ovalle and Jose Hernandez will join Real Salt Lake on the road for the final match in a home-and-home series with Portland Timbers on Sunday, September 8th.

The Claret-and-Cobalt hosted the Timbers the week before and bested the visitors, 1-0. Hernandez and Ovalle saw the field in the final minutes of play and impressed in their brief appearances.

This is the second call up for Glad, who came off the bench and played 81 minutes in his first call up against USL PRO side Phoenix FC on June 15th.

Sunday’s match will be held at Jeld-Wen Field at 6:00 p.m. PST. Fans can follow the action on the Real Salt Lake Twitter account and the Portland Timbers Twitter account. The match could also feature former academy graduates Benji Lopez and Lalo Fernandez who have both signed with Real Salt Lake.

Active academy players who have also received a call up this calendar year are: Sebastian “Bofo” Saucedo, Brooks Lennon, Niki Jackson.

Academy players who received a call up this calendar year and are currently playing collegiate soccer: Coco Navarro, Andrew Brody, Ive Burnett, Jon Zabasajja.

CASA GRANDE, Ariz. – Sacrifice, commitment and hard work are words that are tossed around quite frequently at the Grande Sports Academy and fifteen seniors saw their efforts rewarded by signing their National Letter of Intent on Thursday night.

The seniors spoke about the experience of signing below.

Andrew Brody

I think making the decision to come down to the academy was a personal decisions and it was a maturing one. I’m happy to finally commit to a school. It’s cool to look towards to future and see what the next 4 years are going to be like and I think I’m going to enjoy it.”
