CASA GRANDE, Ariz. – Real Salt Lake U-14 wrapped up their three match showcase at the Grande Sports World with a 2-1 win over Colorado Rapids U-14 on Monday morning.

Aristotle Zarris scored the first goal for RSL in the 7th-minute when a Nestor Serrano shot was saved by the Rapids goalkeeper, who failed to clear to ball out of the box. Zarris ran up and finished the chance. The second goal was scored in the 33rd-minute when Serrano cleaned up a loose ball in the box and tapped it in from close range.

RSL U-14 improved over the course of the weekend after losing the first match to Toronto FC, 0-1, on Friday afternoon. On Saturday the Claret-and-Cobalt played FC Dallas to a 1-1 draw.

CASA GRANDE, Ariz. – The Real Salt Lake U-14 Academy team played FC Dallas U-14 Academy team to a 1-1 draw on Saturday afternoon at the Grande Sports World. Luke Madsen scored the lone goal for the Claret-and-Cobalt, when Reagan Magume cut into the midfield from the right-wing and played up to Bryan Martinez. He then turned and played to Gallo, who then lofted a ball over the FC Dallas backline. Madsen ran up to the ball and finished near post.

Grande Sports Academy - Real Salt Lake U18 Arizona vs Strikers FC -CASA GRANDE, Ariz. – The coaching staff at the Grande Sports Academy home of the Real Salt Lake – Arizona Academy is preparing for one massive weekend of soccer, as the RSL-AZ U-16 & U-18 Elite teams are set to participate in Presidents Day Tournament in Phoenix, while the Real Salt lake U-17 and U-15 will play hosts to a handful on Major League Soccer Academy teams at the Grande Sports World for the second leg of the 2013-14 Generation Adidas Cup. FULL WEEKEND SCHEDULE BELOW

Generation Adidas Cup

The GA Cup is a showcase of MLS’s U-17 Academy teams. Academies are divided into three regions; east, central and west, and will participate in two qualifying events per region, and then they compete in a national event during April 2014 alongside international teams. The RSL U-17 Academy team has been placed in the central region with: Chicago Fire, Colorado Rapids, FC Dallas, Houston Dynamo, Real Salt Lake and Sporting Kansas City.

In the first leg of the GA Cup, which was held in Denver, Colorado, the RSL U-17 Academy team dropped the opening match 3-2 to hosts Colorado Rapids and rolled to a 5-1 win over Sporting Kansas City in the second match. Currently, the RSL U-17 team holding the third position in the Central Region standings with three points.

This weekend the RSL U-17 Academy team will open up second leg play against FC Dallas on Friday, February 14th, at 6:00 PM and the following day the Claret-and-Cobalt will square off against Chicago Fire with kick off set for 6:00 PM. The U-17s will wrap up the 2013 GA Cup against Houston Dynamo on Monday, February 17th, at 10:00 AM.

An MLS Academy U-15 showcase will be held alongside the GA Cup this weekend at the Grande Sports World. The RSL U-15 Academy team participated in a similar event at the first leg of the GA Cup. There they lost the opening match to Colorado Rapids 5-3, drew Chicago Fire 2-2 in the second match and close out the showcase with a 2-1 win over FC Dallas.

This weekend the RSL U-15 Academy team will face Toronto FC on Friday, February 14th at 2:00 PM and will take on FC Dallas on Saturday, February 15th with kickoff set for 11:00 AM. The U-15s will close out the showcase against Colorado on Monday, February 17th at 9:00 AM.

Presidents Day Tournament

The RSL-AZ U-16 Elite team will be looking to continue to impressive start to its 2014 campaign, while the RSL-AZ U-18 Elite team will be participating in its first action of the new calendar year.

Last week, the RSL-AZ U-16 Elite team won all three matches at the Desert Classic Tournament and won the Gold Group. This weekend the U-16 Elite team will kick off Presidents Day Tournament against Alaskan club Cook Inlet SC Velocity on Friday, February 14th, at 6:00 PM. The will face New Mexico club Rio SC Red Gunners on the following day at 5:15 PM and will square off against Trebol SC on Sunday, February 16th, at 10:15 AM. Depending on results, the U-16s may play Sunday night or Monday morning

The U-18 Elite team will open its 2014 campaign on Friday, February 14th against Arsenal Colorado Royal at 7:45 PM. The following day they will take on Foothills SC 96 at 3:30 PM and will close out group play on Sunday, February 16th against Forza DC 96. Depending on results, the U-18s may play Sunday night or Monday morning. Tournament rules are as follows:

DETERMINATION OF GROUP WINNERS/WILD CARDS: In group play, there will be no overtime matches

Standings in a group will be determined by the following:

•One (1) point for a Tie
•No (0) points for a Loss
In the case of a tie in group standings, placement will be determined by:
1.Head to head result
2.Net goal differential, maximum of four goals per match
3.Most goals scored
4.Least goals allowed, no maximum

RSL Elite Weekend Rewind: U-18s and U-16s close out Arizona State League with promotion to Division I

CASA GRANDE, Ariz. – The Real Salt Lake Elite teams wrapped up their first season in the Arizona State League with an impressive weekend of play at the Grande Sports Academy, which saw the U-16s and U-18s secure promotion to Division I.

U-16 Elite

Grande Sports Academy - Real Salt Lake U-16 Elite - G.Cleverly - Gallo (3)The U-16 Elite team dominated their age group, but had one unfortunate hiccup on Saturday morning when Fubolito Bimbo Fuente Azul 98 defeated the Claret-and-Cobalt 4-2 in a physical match. Midway through the second half and trailing by two goals, Javi Avelar cut the deficit when he converted a penalty, however, Fuente Azul scored two more minutes and held on for the win. Robby Orona added a late goal for RSL.

On Sunday, the U-16 Elite team needed just a draw to win the Division II title and playing against Ahwatukee 98 White, the Claret-and-Cobalt came out aggressive and pounded Ahwatukee down the right-wing. It paid dividends in the 20th-minute when Gallo played a diagonal ball to Javi Avelar. Avelar continued his run and sent a low cross that headed to the back post for a waiting Austin Tucker, who calmly finished. Diego Robles added a late insurance goal in the 77th-minute when he beat the last defender with pace and finished the effort.

U-18 Elite

Grande Sports Academy - Real Salt Lake U-18 Elite- G.Cleverly - Radu Marcu, Danny Moreno, Paul Bin, Miguel Martinez (3)The RSL U-18 Elite team went undefeated in Arizona State League play and finished second in their Division after earning two draws this past weekend. On Saturday, Tevin Lowe scored the lone goal for the U-18s in a 1-1 draw with AZ Inferno 96,. The draw meant that the Claret-and-Cobalt could not drop points to their Sunday opponent Sereno South White, who had not given up a goal in six matches.

Seven minutes into the match, Nate Deaton bombed a diagonal ball forward to Paul Bin, who surprised the Sereno defense with his pace. He ran up to the ball, dribbled into the box and rounded the goalkeeper for the opening goal. Moments after the goal Sereno attacked the RSL defense with purpose and earned a free kick from the wing in the 10th minute. Service came in and was deflected towards to the RSL goal where an unmarked Sereno forward was waiting for an easy tap in. Both sides knocked the ball around for the remainder of the match and in the dying minutes it looked like Sereno was going to go up a goal when the RSL defense was caught on the counter, but Nicholas LaMonica made a goal line clearance in the 80th-minute to preserve the draw.
