CASA GRANDE, Ariz. – Real Salt Lake – Arizona U-15/16 & U-17/18 Academy teams will travel to California for a two-match swing against Southwest Division foes Arsenal FC and Real So Cal.
RSL-AZ will face Arsenal FC on Saturday at Riverside Community College – Norco Camp – Stadium Field (Turf) with the U-17/18 match set to kick off at 10:00 AM that will then be followed by the U-15/16 match at 12:30 PM. On Sunday RSL-AZ will look enact revenge against Real So Cal, who defeated both RSL-AZ Academy teams last year in California. The match will be held at Oak Park High School – Turf Field with the U-17/18 match at 11:00 AM and the U-15/16 match at 1:30 PM.

The RSL-AZ U-17/18 Academy team, #5 seed in USSDA Playoffs Pool, is the Southwest Division leader with a 13-1-4 record. RSL-AZ U-17/18 is currently on a 9 match undefeated streak, which is one match shy of the U-17/18 record set in 2010-11. RSL-AZ U-17/18 has also done well on the road this year and is on a 4 match road winning streaking.
Sam Gleadle has been in great form scoring 9 goals in the 2014 calendar year. Eric Carbajal is the team leader with 12 goals and is followed by Gleadle with 9, Corey Baird with 7 and Jose Hernandez who has found the back of the net 6 times. Carbajal, Gleadle and Hernandez are all tied for the team lead in assists with 5 each. In RSL-AZ U-17/18’s most recent match they saw their seven match winning streak snapped in a 2-2 draw with the Seattle Sounders on Saturday, March 22nd at the Grande Sports World.
RSL-AZ U-17/18 has defeated this weekend’s opponents earlier this season at the GSW. On October 27th, RSL-AZ defeated Real So Cal U-17/18, 4-1, and on November 9th, RSL-AZ rolled to a 4-1 win over Arsenal FC U-17/18. Arsenal FC is 7th in the Southwest Division and Real So Cal is 3rd.
The RSL-AZ U-15/16 Academy team, #2 seed in the USSDA Playoffs Pool, is setting the pace in the Southwest Division with a 14-2-2 record. Through eighteen USSDA league matches, RSL-AZ U-15/16 have conceded 11 goals, tied for third best in the U-15/16 age group, and have scored league high 57 goals. On the road, RSL-AZ U-15/16’s have won six matches, drawn and lost two.
Forward Sebastian Saucedo is tied for the top spot in the U-15/16 age group with 17 goals scored. Josh Doughty has notched 7 goals; Tate Schmitt has scored 6, while Justen Glad and Diego “Diablo” Silva have recorded 5 goals each. In RSL-AZ U-15/16’s most recent match they defeated Seattle Sounders 3-1 at the Grande Sports World on Saturday, March 22nd.
