SARASOTA, Fla. – Real Salt Lake U-15/16 defender/forward Miles Stray was selected to play in the Development Academy Select match by U.S. Soccer technical advisors on Thursday night in Sarasota, Florida.

LAKEWOOD RANCH, Fla. (Dec. 12, 2013) – The U-15/16 Academy Select Game ended in a 2-0 win for the Blue Team at Premier Sports Campus.
Blue Team midfielder McKenzie Gaines and forward Ethan Zubak scored goals in the 15th and 29th minutes, respectively, while the defense, led by goalkeeper Andrew Romig, held the Red Team offense in check to secure the shutout.
After a back-and-forth midfield battle in the opening 10 minutes, the Blue Team worked its way into the ascendancy with Orrin Gaines warming the palms of Red Team goalkeeper Seth Steibel with a close-range effort.
The Blue Team then earned a free kick in a dangerous area just outside the Red Team’s penalty area that Zubak blazed over the bar. Moments later, he turned provider. After he did well to break away from a defender down the right flank, Zubak sent in a low centering feed for Gaines to snap home.
Near the 20 minute mark, the Red Select Team began to carve out some chances of its own, with Isaiah Young going close, and Devyn Etling breaking through to put a shot into the stomach of Romig.
Five minutes later, the Blue Team’s Jaret Townsend showed off some excellent skill, performing a difficult spin move to create space for a shot that Steibel did well to keep out.
As the half hour mark approached, Gaines made another nice run down the right flank and cut into the box where he was tripped by the Red Team’s Trey Vinson. Zubak converted the resulting penalty kick with a low drive to the bottom right of the goal that left Steibel rooted to his spot.
Both teams used all available subs at half time before playing out a scoreless second half that featured few opportunities, the best of which fell to Townsend, who collected the ball in the Red Team box after a spell of Blue Team pressure, but he sent his uncontested shot narrowly wide of the far right post.
