CASA GRANDE, Ariz. – The 2012-13 Real Salt Lake U-16 Academy team rewrote the Grande Sports Academy history book at the conclusion of last year’s season when they won the U.S. Soccer Development Academy Finals Week Championship. During their title-winning run, which captured RSL-AZ’s first ever trophy, the U-16s also set new Academy highs in team offensive and defensive categories.
Not wanting to rest of those laurels, the 2013-14 U-16 Academy team is enjoying the best start in the four-year history of the GSA and is already on pace to shatter last year’s record highs.
Through eleven matches the U-16s have found the back of the net 38 times and have conceded just 4 goals for an average of 3.45 goals per match and .36 goals against per match, respectively. The U-16s are leading their age group in goals per match and are tied with the New York Red Bulls for the league high in goals against per match average.
Last year’s U-16 Academy team scored 84 goals and conceded 41 in 35 matches for a 2.40 goals per match and a 1.17 goals against per match average.
If the U-16 Academy team continues to keep the pace they have started, they will finish with 103 goals scored and 11 goals conceded. The Academy high in goals scored in a season is 84 (2012-13 U-16 Academy team) and the Academy low is goals conceded is 33 (2011-12 U-18 Academy team).
The 2013-14 U-18 Academy team is also enjoying a strong start and have conceded just 7 goals in 11 matches for a .63 average per match; best in the U-18 age group.
